World number twelve Kei Nishikori missed out on Japan Open title after losing to Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the final of the men's singles event here on Sunday.
Medvedev clinched an easy 6-2, 6-4 victory against Nishikori in a clash that lasted 62 minutes.
Banking on the eleven unforced errors by the Japanese player, Medvedev won the opening set in just 25 minutes.
Giving a tight fight, initially, in the second set, Nishikori could not tackle well, the strong servicing of the world number 12 Russian and lost the match by slumping to a straight-set defeat.
In men's doubles event, the German-Japanese duo of Jan-Lennard Struff and Ben McLachlan thrashed Michael Venus (New Zealand) and Raven Klaasen (South Africa) 6-4, 7-5 to lift the title.
