Amazon Alexa gets a brand new 'Brief mode' feature that will replace verbal responses with beeps

Amazon Echo range of devices stands among most popular voice assistant-powered speakers across the world. However, the tech company Amazon is always in the process of figuring out what kind of conversations work between the AI and users. And finally, Amazon has brought an interesting set of developments. It has unveiled a new feature for Amazon Alexa called 'Brief mode' for its various Echo devices. The feature would normally respond with 'OK' or other appropriate response to a query.

Engadget reports that the option has also appeared in the iOS app, version 2.2.202313.0, which rolled out on the 15 March.

The Verge reports that the only difference between ‘Brief mode’ and the normal mode appears to be the beeping.

To make the conversations more natural with the virtual assistant, Amazon has pushed an update to Alexa-enabled devices.

According to technology blog CNET, Amazon Echo owners can now ask Alexa a follow-up question without saying the “Alexa” trigger word again.

Earlier, the Amazon Echo users had to start their query with the word “Alexa” to wake the always-on speaker.

The new functionality – dubbed Follow-Up Mode – should make the conversation more natural, and allows users to quickly ask for additional information.
A spokesperson for the US company told Metro: “In rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase ‘Alexa, laugh’.”

Amazon believes this 'Brief mode' feature will reduce the possibility of Alexa mishearing the phrase.
