Oppo's launch of ‘Realme’ smartphones to target ‘Redmi’ looks cheeky

Oppo is all set to launch its sub-brand Realme, closely sounds like Redmi. Redmi is also a sub-brand of Chinese tech giant Xiaomi. The teaser of new smartphone suggests that Realme 1 is all set to launch on 15 may in an exclusive sale on Amazon. This handset bears the look of Redmi smartphone so closely that you have to look twice to be confirmed that its Realme. Oppo has the plan to counter Redmi with its sub-brand Realme in a low budget smartphone. Also, Realme 1 has the similar look of Redmi 5 A.

Oppo is launching this sub-brand to target the low budget smartphone, the new Realme is the first smartphone in the series. Redmi has become one of the most famous brands in affordable smartphone market segment. Realme 1 has designed its back with the black diamond pattern. It could also be the version of Oppo A3 at the cheapest cost. The CEO of Realme India said in a statement “Realme satisfies the needs of online consumers through unique, exquisite design, leading specs, cutting-edge technology and overall better quality”.


Company has not announced any officail statement regarding the price of Realme but speculations are it could be priced at between Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. Redmi has Redmi note 5 and Redmi note 5 pro under this midrange price segment.

Oppo is very successfull in the upper market segment and give tough competition to brand like Vivo. Now to target another Chinese smartphone company Redmi in affordable smartphone market segment Oppo has designed this new strategy known as Realme 1.
