Facebook and its owner Mark Zuckerberg have been facing a lot of criticism from the world over. Facebook found themselves involved in the data breach scam led by the data accumulation firm Cambridge Analytica. However, the social media giant has revealed a document that reveals truly impressive numbers: in the first quarter of 2018, the company eliminated 583 million fake accounts in the service, in addition to 837 million spam publications.
Zuckerberg proudly announced the successful detection of the fake accounts that were deactivated by default within minutes they registered. He also informed the EU parliament about the steps being taken to control online bullying and abusive content.
This filtering is done with the aid of artificial intelligence. Even so, the company estimates that from 3% to 4% of the active accounts in the first quarter corresponded to false profiles. In the report, Facebook points out that 21 million publications with scenes of nudity or sexual activity were eliminated, 96% automatically, without users having to report the irregularity. 3.5 million publications with violence were erased or warned, 86% of them by the system itself.
He also claimed 99% successful detections and actions in all the content related to terrorist groups and their propaganda ISIS.
The data garnered by Cambridge Analytica was allegedly used to manipulate the voters in American presidential elections and the incident has since then brought Facebook in a bad light for backstabbing its users.
Following the incident, Facebook has been facing criticism for compromising the customer integrity and privacy. Indian information and broadcast minister Ravi Shankar Prasad came out in open to condemn Facebook's misdeeds. Zuckerberg later faced the American Congress who grilled him on various issues relating to Customer privacy, fake news and various other issues.
