Android OS is now ten years old. US operator T Mobile is commemorating the occasion when the T-Mobile G1 was released running the first Android 1.0 OS under the hood.
It was on September 23, 2008, that Android's first OS was rolled out in the first set of mobile phones. As Engadget reports, in the early years, the OS was quite imperfect. One of the bumps was that it couldn't play videos outside of YouTube.
Owing to the swift upgrades and flagship brands such as Motorola and Samsung embracing it, Android hit dominance by 2010.
Over the course of the decade, Android has evened out all the rough edges to become the most popular mobile OS today. It is present on over 2 billion active devices and has gone beyond the smartphone to expand on TV and PCs platform.
