Surat (Gujarat): People staged a protest at the Valsad GRP station on Thursday, expressing their outrage over the authorities' failure to curb liquor smuggling on trains. The situation escalated after two accused were arrested at Udvada station on Wednesday with liquor worth ₹2 lakh.

The protesters, including leaders from Valsad and Surat, alleged that a GRP constable, Praveen Baria, was involved in the smuggling racket. They claimed that the officer's complicity had led to the harassment of other passengers on the train.

Demanding action against the constable, the protesters, including Vishal from the Surat Congress Youth Organization and Kalpesh from the JRCC, gathered at the Valsad GRP station, expressing their anger over the authorities' inaction.

According to reports, Rahul, a resident of Hanuman Faliya in Valsad, was responsible for transporting liquor from the railway yard to the train. The protesters alleged that Rahul operated under the supervision of Constable Praveen Baria. Rahul already has cases registered against him at the City Police Station and other police stations. He is accompanied by another youth who claims to be a police informer. The protesters have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
