Jhalawar (Rajasthan): Despite continuous inspections by administrative officers, corruption in MNREGA projects is still prevalent. On Thursday, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) conducted surprise inspections of MNREGA projects in Gram Panchayats Talawli and Padalia. Shortcomings were found at both locations.

SDM Dinesh Kumar Meena stated that inspections were conducted at MNREGA projects in Gram Panchayats Padalia and Talawli. At Bhatakheri village in Talawli, not a single labourer was found at the site, while records showed that work was being carried out. When contacted, Gram Vikas Adhikari (Village Development Officer) claimed to be on leave. The SDM directed the Village Development Officer to take action against the Gram Panchayat employees.

Similarly, at the Charagah development project in Arnia and Lakakhedi villages of Padalia, only 31 labourers were found, while 55 labourers were shown as present in the muster roll. Directions were given to the Village Development Officer to take action against the contractors who had falsified attendance records.

In the past, when irregularities were found during surprise inspections, action was taken against the erring officials. Many contractors have been blacklisted, and notices have been issued to Gram Vikas Adhikaris, JEENs, and AENs.
