Surat (Gujarat): The Millennium-2 Textile Market, which was shut down for 13 days due to fire safety NOC and other issues, was finally reopened on Thursday. Similarly, the seal on Hira-Panna, Shriom, and Asian Textile Market in Moti Begumwadi, which was shut for 20-25 days, was also lifted, bringing relief to hundreds of textile traders. Regular business activities will resume in all these markets from Friday.
After the Rajkot fire incident, the administration took strict action across the state, including in Surat, and sealed several markets due to fire safety NOC and other issues. The textile traders had been protesting against the closure of the market for the past three-four days, and on Wednesday, they held a dharna outside the market premises, tying black bands on their arms. The Federation of Surat Trade and Textile Association also announced a large-scale dharna from Thursday.
During the dharna, Federation President Kailash Hakim addressed the traders, stating that if the administration did not reopen the market by evening, they would start an indefinite fast. Just then, MLA Sangita Patil called to inform the traders that the market would be reopened.
