P V Sindhu sails into pre-quarterfinals after convincing win over Li Xuerui in China Open
Current World Champion PV Sindhu has entered the pre-quarterfinals with a resounding win against former Olympic gold medallist Li Xuerui but Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal failed to qualify for the second round as she crashed out of the China Open after she lost to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan.
Indian Badminton ace PV Sindhu beat Li Xuerui 21-18, 21-12 in just 31 minutes of play. Recreating her world championship form, PV Sindhu fabricated another brilliant display to get the better of China’s Li Xuerui, who came into this match with a 3-3 record against the world champion.
Nevertheless, Saina Nehwal made an early exit from the tournament after she succumbed to defeat to Busanan Ongbamrungpan of Thailand. Sania lost 10-21, 17-21 at the hands of the Thai shuttler. The match went on for 44 minutes at the Olympics Sports Centre Xincheng Gymnasium.
This was Sania Nehwal’s second successive defeat to the Thai shuttler.
In other matches, Sai Praneeth won Suppanyu Avihingsanon 21-19, 21-23 and 21-14 to register his spot in the second round of the China Open in Men’s singles category.
While on the other hand, pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy lost to Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich 12-21, 21-23.
