Virat Kohli all set to become 1st Indian player to play 100 matches in all formats

The ‘Men in Blue’ is all set to kick start their Asia Cup 2022 campaign by locking horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, August 28.

Since an encounter between both teams is always something a little bit more than cricket, this match becomes more special for Indian fans as former India skipper Virat Kohli is set to achieve a new milestone at the event. The star batter will represent India in his 100th T20I match and will become the first Indian player to play hundred matches for the country in all formats of the game.

Earlier this year, Kohli acquired his 100th cap in Test cricket when Team India faced Sri Lanka in a Test match in Mohali, Punjab.

With this achievement, the star batter will become the only second cricketer on the planet to achieve the milestone of completing 100 matches in all three formats of the ‘gentleman’s game'. Right now, New Zealand batter Ross Taylor is the only other cricketer to complete this unique feat. Kohli will be the first Indian cricketer to reach the milestone.

Interestingly, he will also become the second Indian cricketer after Rohit Sharma (132) to play 100 or more matches in the T20 format at the international level. The achievement will also prove Virat Kohli’s longevity in cricket since his international debut in 2008.

So far, the Indian batting legend has represented the country in 99 T20I matches and scored 3,308 runs at an average of 50.12. Kohli’s best individual score in the T20 format is 94 and he has scored 30 half-centuries in this format.

The former Indian skipper is returning to action after a month-long break. Kohli was rested for tours to West Indies and Zimbabwe for the series.
