Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay's Mersal is a few hours away from its theatrical release, but the film has already turned out to be a huge money spinner for its makers, Sri Thenandal Films.
If Tamil media reports are to be believed, the all-India distribution rights of Mersal have already earned more than Rs. 100 crore for its makers. Yes, you heard it right! The Thalapathy film, which is scheduled to release simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu (titled Adirindhi) have already been sold for more than Rs. 100 crore. In Tamil Nadu alone, the distribution rights have sold for a huge Rs. 73 crore alone whereas in Kerala and Karnataka, the Mersal rights have been sold for Rs. 6.6 crore and Rs. 6 crore respectively.
And with this massive all-India distribution figures, Thalapathy Vijays joins the elite club of Rajinikanth, Salman Khan, Shah Rakh Khan, Mahesh Babu and Jr.NTR.
Mersal also marks the second collaboration of Thalapathy Vijay and director Atlee after their 2016 blockbuster Theri. The music of the film has been composed by AR Rahman. Mersal stars Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen in female lead roles. Written by Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad, the film will hit the screens as Diwali release on Wednesday.
