Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's first release of the year, Pad Man released on Friday. The film, directed by R Balki is based on the life of Arunachalam Murugunathan, a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Pad Man also marks the maiden production venture of actress-turned-writer and Akshay Kumar's wife Twinkle Khanna and stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in female lead roles.
And as expected, Pad Man has opened to positive reports from the critics and audience alike. The film has minted Rs. 10.26 crore on its opening day at the Indian Box Office. The film has been praised for the performances of its lead actors, especially Akshay Kumar, who's performance is touted as his career-best performance.
Prior to its theatrical release, Akshay Kumar started the Pad Man Challenge to promote the menstrual hygiene in India. Many top Bollywood celebrities like including Aamir Khan, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma too have expressed their support on the same challenge as well.
And now, Sathyam Cinemas, popular multiplex chain and film production company owned by the SPI Group, Chennai, Tamil Nadu stated that free sanitary napkins would be dispensed across India.
There are nearly 52 screens operated by the SPI cinemas including in Chennai, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Chennai, Pondicherry, Thiruvananthapuram and Warangal. They have also assured that the campaign would be expanded to its other properties in various properties.
