In a heinous incident, a Chennai filmmaker allegedly killed his actress wife and chopped off her body in pieces. The filmmaker was arrested on Wednesday. Reportedly the body parts of the woman, without head were found in a dump yard last month. The filmmaker identified Balakrishnan was held after an important clue helped police identify that it was his wife.
The victim Sandhya, 37, was murdered by her husband and two tattoos on the severed legs lead to the arrest of her husband. According to the report, the police began probe last month making the two tattoos designed like Shiva-Parvati and a dragon as a vital clue. After over 2 weeks of the actress death, accused Balakrishnan was arrested by the police. A bangle too helped the probe.
The 51-year-old accused killed his wife on January 19, chopped her body the next day and dumped the parts packed in plastic bags in garbage bins in different parts of Chennai, the police said.
The police circulated the pictures of the tattoos and the bangle and the first tip-off came from Sandhya's mother in Thoothukudi in southern Tamil Nadu. While Balakrishnan had told the family that Sandhya had returned to Thoothukudi but was not accessible on phone.
Soon police nabbed the accused. However, Balakrishnan has also confessed to having committed the crime doubting Sandhya's extramarital affair, the police said.
“We are on the lookout for the missing head with information the accused has given us," police officer Alvin said. "Based on information he gave, another part of the woman's body was also found on Wednesday," the police added.
The couple from Thoothukudi got married in 2000. Sandhya is fourteen years younger to Balakrishnan. He has directed and produced a film called "Kadhal Ilavasam.
