Friday saw the release of five major films at the Chennai Box Office. Tamil film Kalakalappu 2, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's Pad Man and Telugu films Gayatri, Inttelligent and Tholi Prema. And much to the delight of Pad Man makers, the film has recorded good collections across the cinemas of Chennai on its opening weekend.
In fact, the Akshay Kumar starrer tops most of the new South releases and made a grand debut at No .2 at the Chennai Box Office. On its opening weekend, Padman scores big and has grossed nearly Rs. 60 lakh at the Chennai Box Office. It's a good feat considering that the film had to face stiff competition from all new South releases in the city.
Directed by R Balki, Pad Man is based on the life of Arunachalam Murugunathan, a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Padman also marks the maiden production venture of actress-turned-writer and Akshay Kumar's wife Twinkle Khanna and stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in female lead roles.
