Popular Tamil actor Vijay on 11 September met the family of Anitha, who allegedly committed suicide over National Eligibility cum Entrance Test recently.
Vijay visited the house of Anitha at Kuzhumur in Ariyalur district and reportedly offered a sum of Rs one lakh to the bereaved family members.
Pictures of the actor sitting along with Anitha's father and brother were widely circulated on social media sites soon after the visit.
Protests had erupted in Tamil Nadu soon after 17-year-old Anitha, daughter of a daily wage earner, allegedly hanged herself at her house no 1 September.
She was reportedly upset after reports emerged that Tamil Nadu would not be exempted from the ambit of NEET.
The Supreme Court had last month asked the Tamil Nadu Government to start counselling for admissions to MBBS and BDS seats in the state based on the NEET merit list.
It had given the directive after Centre told the court that it was not in favour of a recent ordinance passed by the state to exempt it from NEET this year.
