Kidambi Srikanth scripts history, beats Olympic gold medallist Chen Long to win Australian Open

India's Kidambi Srikanth scripted history on 25 June after defeating China's Chen Long 22-20, 21-16 to win the Australian Open Super Series in Sydney.

Srikanth outclassed Olympic gold medallist Long is straight sets as he mostly dominated the game. Long gave tough competition to Srikanth in the first set but the second set was ruled by the Indian.

The pressure was mounting on Srikanth as the history had not been in his favour when it came to matches against Long. The India trailed by 0-5 in the head-to-head tally against current World champion. The Indian player worked past the pressure and produced an amazing performance.

This is Srikanth's second consecutive Superseries title of the year. He has become the first Indian man to win the title and the second Indian to achieve this feat after shutler Saina Nehwal.

With this win, Srikanth's tally of Superseries titles has to four. He won the Indonesia Open last week.
Earlier, he had won the China Open in 2014 and the India Open in 2015.
