India's ace badminton player PV Sindhu missed an opportunity of creating a new history. Sindhu could not become the first Indian to win the title of BWF Dubai World Superseries. Japan's Akane Yamaguchi defeated Sindhu 15-21, 21-12, 21-19 in the thrilling final match.

With this defeat Sindhu missed the title of Dubai World Supercars for the first time. If she won the title, she would have made history to be the first Indian player to win this tournament. However, in the last game, she lagged behind with only two points and the title went to second world-seeded Yamaguchi. Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu had earlier captured the India Open Super Series and Korea Open Super Series.

Earlier, world top seeded mixed doubles pair of Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen claimed the title of Dubai World Superseries. Chinese pair of Zheng-Chen has won the title for the second consecutive time. At the same time they won this series in 2016. Zheng-Chen defeated Yong Suet's pair 21-15, 22-20 in the mixed doubles final of Hong Kong match on Sunday.
