Asian Games 2018: Prajnesh Prabhakaran gets bronze, Prannoy crashes out

India on Friday won their fourteenth bronze medal in the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games as Prajnesh Prabhakaran lost his semi-final clash against Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand in Men's Singles event of Tennis.

In badminton, on the other hand, Indian challenge in Men's Singles event came to an end after HS Prannoy lost his opening round to Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand.


While Prannoy conceded a 12-21, 21-15, 15-21 defeat to his Thai opponent, the 28-year-old tennis player suffered a crushing 2-6, 2-6 straight-sets defeat against Wangcharoen in a match that lasted one hour twenty-six minutes.

Prabhakaran had, earlier, thrashed Korean player Soonwoo Kwon 6(2)-7, 6-4, 7-6(8) in the quarter-final to book a spot in the semi-final of the event.

Earlier in the day, India's strong medal probable in badminton singles event, Kidambi Srikanth had also suffered a shocking exit from the event after being handed over a 21-23, 19-21 straight-sets defeat by Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong.

In squash, India's Joshana Chinappa swept aside Ho Ling Chan of Hong Kong 3-1 to enter the semi-finals of the women's singles event.

India's total medal tally at the Asian Games now stands at 25 with six gold, five silver and fourteen bronze.
