After disappointments over the past few competitions, Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have the opportunity to secure medal in women’s singles badminton at the Asian Games at Jakarta.

Both the Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal secures medal for India. PV Sindhu beats Thailand's Jindapol Nitchaon 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 to reach semifinals. Saina Nehwal beats Ratchanok Intanon 21-18, 21-16 in the quarterfinal to reach semifinals and became the first Indian woman to win a badminton singles medal.

However, Syed Modi was the only Indian to win a medal at the Asian Games when he clinched the men's singles bronze during the 1982 edition.

Saina Nehwal will next take on world no 1 Tai Tzu Ying, who knocked out Glasgow World Champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 21-15 21-10 in the other quarterfinal while PV Sindhu will take on a Thai player.
