West Bengal: Piku actress Moushumi Chatterjee joins BJP in the presence of Kailash Vijayargiya; likely to contest 2019 polls

Ahead of 2019 polls, veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee joined ruling Bhartiya Janta Party on Thursday. According to the fresh reports, Ms Chatterjee is likely to contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The 70-year-old Bengali actress joined BJP in the presence of Kailash Vijayargiya, a senior leader in charge of Bengal. She had met with top BJP leaders in Delhi on Tuesday, according to reports. "I want to work with the BJP," she was quoted as telling reporters.


Actress Moushumi Chatterjee also said that she was an admirer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, in 2004, Piku actress had contested the national election as a Congress candidate in Bengal. The actress, however, was defeated in the Calcutta North-East constituency in 2004. She lost to Left candidate Mohammad Salim.

Chatterjee was seen in a number of Hindi and Bengali films in the sixties and the seventies, and recently also featured in the critically acclaimed Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan-starrer "Piku".
