Weather: Rainfall likely in Tamil Nadu, Kerala today; thunderstorm in Rajasthan, Bengal

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a wet spell with thunderstorm activity over most parts of the country in the next 5 days, with heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka (North Interior), Telangana today, April 26.

The weather department also predicted hailstorm activity in parts of Jammu And Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh today, with thunderstorm activity in parts of Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.


Western Disturbance

The IMD has recorded a western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over Pakistan and adjoining Iran in lower and middle levels, along with a trough/wind discontinuity that is running from west Vidarbha to South Interior Karnataka in lower levels.

Rainfall Forecast and Warning

  • Under the influence of the above disturbances, light scattered or widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds very expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Kerala in the next 5 days.
  • Heavy rainfall is predicted in isolated parts of Kerala during April 26 to April 30 and in North Interior Karnataka, Telangana on April 26 and April 27; in Coastal Andhra Pradesh on April 27 and over South Interior Karnataka on April 29 and April 30.
  • In the next 4 days, light to moderate isolated showers with thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected in parts of Eastern India, including Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha.
  • Additionally, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds have been predicted in parts of Northeast India. Heavy showers are likely to occur in isolated parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from April 28 to April 30, and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on April 29 and April 30.
  • Light rainfall with thunderstorm is likely in parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada with isolated rainfall is predicted in parts of Gujarat in the next 5 days.
  • Light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm is predicted in parts of Western Himalayan Region during April 26 to April 30.

Maximum Temperature

The daytime temperature was below 40 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country in the last 24 hours. However, the maximum temperature was below normal/near normal in most parts of the country except northeast India, where it was above normal by 2-4 degrees Celsius.

Maximum Temperature Forecast

The daytime temperature is very likely to be below normal to near normal across the country in the next 5 days.

Heatwave Warning

No heatwave conditions in most parts of the country in the next 5 days.
