Residents of northwest India, including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, are expected to get respite from the heatwave conditions starting tomorrow, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on April 18.
However, heatwave conditions are expected to continue for two more days in the rest of the country. The same conditions are likely to persist in the Eastern Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha for the next four days.
According to IMS Delhi scientist Soma Sen Roy, severe heatwaves have been recorded in some districts of the east and east-peninsular region of the country in the last 24 hours.

Rainfall Forecast
Rainfall is expected over parts of Northwest India including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh from April 18 to 20, with possibility of heavy showers in parts of Western Himalayan Region on April 18 and April 19.
Western Disturbance and Impacts
A western disturbance in the form of a trough has been witnessed in middle tropospheric westerlies, which runs roughly along Long. 64°E to the north of Lat. 21°N, along with an induced cyclonic circulation lying over north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab in lower tropospheric levels.
A trough/wind discontinuity runs from south Madhya Maharashtra to South Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels.
Maximum Temperatures and Heat Wave
The daytime temperature was in the range of 40-44 degrees Celsius in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha in the last 24 hours.
The maximum temperature was recorded between 35-40 degrees Celsius in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh in the same duration.
No significant change in the daytime temperature was witnessed in southern India in the last 24 hours. However, heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next two days.
