As north India reels under cold wave conditions, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on January 8 said that the weather condition will get worse in states like - Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in the coming days.

According to the weather department, light showers are expected in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on the night of January 11 and the morning of January 12.

For the fifth day in a row, North India awoke to dense fog and biting cold. Low visibility due to fog has crippled life across cities.  The visibility dropped to zero meters at several places, and flights and trains also got delayed due to the dense fog.

IMD Senior Scientist RK Jenamani said that the national capital has witnessed the worst fog conditions of the season today. He said that the daytime temperature in Delhi will remain between 14 to 16 degrees Celsius today.

“Delhi witnessed worse fog conditions of the season today. The temperature in Delhi will remain between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius today due to dense fog. Light drizzle is likely to occur over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and UP on the night of Jan 11 and morning of 12th January,” he said.

The cold wave conditions can further worsen in hilly regions of north India, as heavy snowfall is expected in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on January 11 and January 12.
