Gangster Vikas Dubey has been killed in an encounter that took place at 6.30 am this morning.
According to media reports, he was shot dead after Vikas Dubey tried to escape from police custody after a road accident while he was being taken to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh from Madhya Pradesh, where he was arrested on July 9.
One of the vehicles of the convoy of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) that was bringing back history-sheeter Vikas Dubey from Madhya Pradesh to Kanpur overturned here, ANI reported.
"Gangster Vikas Dubey arrested for killing eight policemen is dead," confirmed the police.
According to SP Kanpur West Anil Kumar told media, "Vikas Dubey attempted to flee by snatching pistol of the injured policemen after car overturned. Police tried to make him surrender, during which he fired at the policemen. He was injured in retaliatory firing by police. He was later rushed to the hospital."

Dubey, the main accused in the Kanpur policemen killing case, was arrested by the police in Ujjain on Thursday morning. He was identified by the security guard at Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain shrine, who alerted police.
After being arrested by the MP Police, the gangster shouted, “Main Vikas Dubey hun, Kanpur wala (I am Vikas Dubey from Kanpur].”
“Vikas Dubey was going to Ujjain Mahakal temple when he was identified by security personnel. Police were informed, he confessed his identity after being pushed for it. He has been apprehended by police & interrogation is underway,” Ashish Singh, Ujjain Collector said.

Vikas Dubey is the main accused in the encounter that took place in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur last week, in which 8 UP police personnel were martyred.
To nabbed the history-sheeter, UP Police launched a search operation for him and raised the bounty on him to Rs 5 lakh.
Vikas Dubey’s close aides, Bahua Dubey and Prabhat Mishra were killed in separate encounters in Etawah and Kanpur respectively, on Thursday.
