An 11-year-old girl was raped and murdered after being abducted in Uttarakhand’s Uttarakshi district on Tuesday. Reportedly, it was done by the jilted lover in revenge when the victim’s elder sister rejected his love proposal.
22-year-old Mukesh Lal alias Bunty, who is from the same community and lived in the neighborhood to the victim, abducted the girl when he did not find her elder sister at home on Friday night. He had threatened to abduct her elder sister. The accused has confessed to the crime and was arrested by the police.
Ajay Rautela, deputy inspector general, Garhwal range, was quoted by the Hindustan Times as saying “He was known to the victim and used to tame mules along with her father in the same village. In the initial investigations, it has been found that he was in a one-sided love affair with her 17-year-old elder sister. He was a jilted lover as her sister had refused his proposals in the past after which he committed the crime out of rage”.
He further said that the crime was committed by the jilted lover alone. There is no one accomplice.
“So far it has been found that he committed the crime alone and didn’t have any accomplice. He was of the same community as the girl. The legal procedures of his arrest are still on,” he further said.
The area was thrown into tension after the girl’s body was found lying on a culvert in the village on Saturday morning. The residents which are being led by some Hindu-right wing organizations, held demonstration demanding the eviction of people coming from outside the state for employment there.
Protesting against heinous crime, shops were kept closed for two days. However, the police clarified that no outsider is invovled into the crime.
