In a bone-chilling incident, bodies of two girls were found hanging from a tree in Mau tehsil in Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. According to reports, the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, the deaths appear to be cases of suicide.

According to News18, sources said that the two girls went to the fields and didn’t return home, following which a search operation was launched by the police. Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
"Further action will depend on the postmortem report," ANI quoted SSP Chitrakoot, as saying. An investigation was underway.
In a similar case, in 2014 two cousins were found hanging from a tree in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. This incident had left the nation in a state of shock. As per reports, it was believed that the sisters were raped and then hanged.
However, over the lack of evidence, then the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reached on a consensus that the duo had committed suicide.
