In the fallout of the United Nations Security Council 1267 committee where in after China’s veto, Masood Azhar’s designation as ‘global terrorist’ was blocked, France has decided to freeze the French assets of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief.
After the US, the UK and France moved the resolution to ban Masood Azhar, China blocked it on technical grounds and the global consensus gathered by India fell apart. Although, the US Embassy spokesperson had issued a statement saying ‘they would take other actions after this’ and France has initiated the step.
News agency ANI tweeted informing, “France says it has decided to freeze the French assets of Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar.”
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement saying they were "disappointed" with the step of China.
MEA added saying, "We are disappointed by this outcome. This has prevented action by the international community to designate the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a proscribed and active terrorist organization which has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February 2019. We are grateful for the efforts of the Member States who moved the designation proposal and the unprecedented number of all other Security Council members as well as non-members who joined as co-sponsors."
