Fatal Accident on Jammu-Srinagar Highway
In a tragic incident on Tuesday morning, a bus carrying passengers from Amritsar to Katra veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Jhajjar Kotli, just 15 km away from Katra in Jammu.
The accident resulted in the loss of ten lives, while around 30 people sustained injuries.
Rescue and Evacuation Efforts
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Chandan Kohli, reported that the injured individuals were promptly transported to the hospital. A multi-agency response, including paramilitary teams and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), was deployed to aid the police in the rescue and evacuation operations. The local community also played a vital role in assisting with the efforts.
Investigation and Support Measures
Assistant Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Ashok Choudhary, revealed that additional measures were being taken to ensure no one was trapped beneath the bus.
