Telangana Election 2018: Young man arrested for taking selfie inside polling booth in Hyderabad

As polling for the Telangana Assembly election 2018 begins, several voters turned out to the polling booth to casts their votes. In Telangana, a youth was held for reportedly taking a selfie while casting his vote in assembly elections on Friday in Hyderabad.

The voter has been identified as Shiv Shankar, was arrested by the Hyderabad police following a complaint by polling official of allegedly clicking selfie at a polling centre in Rajendranagar constituency in Greater Hyderabad.


Officials said the youth was arrested under Representation of People's Act for violating the secrecy of voting. As the use of mobile phones inside the polling booths is prohibited, if anyone uses a mobile phone than it is a violation of the secrecy of voting.

However, the Election Commission has cautioned the voters, mainly the first time voters against taking selfies inside the polling booths while casting vote. Officials said the voters are free to take selfies with their inked finger after coming out of the booths.

The polling for the Telassembly election will end at 5 pm and the result will be declared on 11 December.
