TDP breaks ties with the NDA; set to file 'no-confidence motion' against government

After a spree of fallouts with the Modi government over the special status for the state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's party Telgu Desum Party broke ties with the BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government today on 16 March. He also accused the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ‘instigating others’ against them and weakening his party leadership. The party also supported a no-motion trust against the Modi government in the Lok Sabha.

“Since it could not do anything to us on its own, the BJP is instigating others and try to interfere in Andhra politics like it did in Tamil Nadu. Should I get scared like a coward if Narendra Modi or NDA government instigates others against us?" Naidu said at a public meeting here on 15 March.

N Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP and the YSR Congress are extremely upset with the Modi government since the government refused to give special status to Andhara Pradesh. Earlier, TDP members had resigned from the Narendra Modi ministry on the same issue. The decision to leave the alliance was taken by the party unanimously.

TDP also supported a no-trust motion moved by YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy against the BJP-led government. The no-trust motion, which is being moved first time in the stint of the NDA government, is also in reaction of not giving special status to the state.

“BJP has cheated Telugu people, this time also they have succeeded in doing so, we will be moving a no-confidence motion (in the Parliament),” KS Jawahar, Andhra Pradesh Minister.

Two Aandhara-Pradesh-based parties TDP and YSR Congress have been protesting in the parliament for the special status. YSR Congress MP Y V Subba Reddy gave the notice to the Lok Sabha secretariat for  the motion in Friday’s list of business.
