Suspended BJP leader Kirti Azad, who became a critic of the Modi government, has joined the Congress party ahead of the General Elections of 2019.
Member of Parliament from Bihar’s Darbhanga, has joined the Congress in presence of party president Rahul Gandhi.
Two days back, Kirti Azad had tweeted about his meeting with Rahul Gandhi and mourned the death of 40 CRPF personnel in Kashmir’s Pulwama.
Azad tweeted, “Met @RahulGandhi ji it was rightly decided that in mark of respect to the martyred soldiers of Pulwama my joining the @INCIndia will now take place on 18th February we will be in state of mourning for 3 days country is bigger than a person or party and soldiers are supreme Ameen.”
Azad, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup winning team, has represented the Darbhanga constituency from last three times and is keen to again contest from the seat. But, the Congress might be planning to field Azad from South Delhi seat, which has a dominant population of Purvanchali’s.
While the talks of AAP and Congress alliance are brewing as the Grand Alliance is under making, a Congress leader has said, “Congress may ask some of its former MPs to contest again if there is an alliance with AAP. But, if there is a triangular contest, the choice of candidates may be different.”
