Surat fire tragedy has killed at least 20 students who were attending the coaching classes when the massive fire broke out at the Takshashila building in the Sarthana area on Friday evening.
Some heart shaking visuals showed how students jumped off the building to escape the blaze. As per the officials, at least 10 students on the third and the fourth floors jumped off the multi-story building to save themselves from the fire and smoke.
However, at least 19 fire tenders and two hydraulic platforms reached the spot to douse the fire and tried to rescue the people who were stuck inside the building.
There was a man named Ketan who risked his life to save students lives who were stuck inside the coaching center.
Ketan told to ANI, ‘There was smoke, I did not know what to do. I took the ladder, first helped the children get out of the place, managed to save 8-10 people. Later I managed to rescue 2 more students. The fire brigade came after 40-45 minutes.’

Fire tenders doused the fire within an hour. Reportedly, no safety equipment was installed in the building, officials told.
Meanwhile, Surat Police has registered an FIR agaist three people including builders of the complex- Harshal Vekaria and Jignesh and the owner of the coaching centre Bhargav Bhutani. Also, the coaching owner has been arrested.
