Amid the ongoing probe into Haryana BJP leader and actor Sonali Phogat’s death case, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on August 27 said the State Government will provide full support to the police investigation. He further asserted that the accused involved in the murder case will be punished stringently by the Goa Police.
"Full support from day one in the investigation. Those who have to be punished will be punished by Goa Police 100%. Currently, they (accused) are in custody and an investigation is going on," said CM Sawant, as quoted by News Agency ANI.
Sonali Phogat was declared dead by the doctors of St Anthony Hospital in North Goa on August 23. Recently, a post-mortem report revealed some blunt force injuries on her body, following which the Goa Police registered a murder case and started the probe.
Earlier in the day, the police arrested the owner of Curlies beach shack restaurant and a suspected drug peddler Dattprashad Gaonkar. On August 26, Phogat’s Personal Assistant (PA) Sudhir Sangwan and his associate Sukhwinder Singh confessed in front of the police that they had intentionally made her drink some "obnoxious" chemical. Both the accused travelled to Goa with Phogat on August 22. Police will produce Sangwan and Singh before the court today.
Sonali Phogat was cremated at her hometown in Hisar on August 26. She rose to fame with her TikTok videos. She also contested the 2019 Haryana election as a BJP candidate but lost to Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi, who later joined BJP. Phogat also appeared in Bigg Boss in 2020.
