Shocking! Kolkata man stores mother’s body for three years to withdraw her pension

Kolkata police on Wednesday detained a leather technologist Subhabrata Majumdar who was keeping the dead body of his mother in a refrigerator at his house for three years.

His mother died on April 7, 2015 in a private nursing home but Majumdar applied ‘mummification’ techniques to preserve her body allegedly for withdrawing her pension.

Majumdar and his father Gopal, who too lives at the house, are being questioned by the police. They were living in two-storey house in Behala on the southern fringes of Kolkata. The police were acting on a tip-off.

Police found a second freezer that is similar to the one in which he kept his mother’s body at the house. Both freezers were on the first floor while The Majumdars used to stay on the ground floor.

“Preliminary investigation is going on. We cannot reveal anything at the moment,” said an officer of Behala police station who refused to be identified. Deputy Commissioner.

Bina and Gopal Majumdar used to work at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) while Subhabrata Majumdar worked for a leather products company. He left the job five years ago.

A police officer said Majumdar had removed the organs from his mother’s body for preservation. They used Chemicals such as formaldehyde for preservation.

Locals said the Majumdars kept aloof and did not mix with anyone in the neighborhood. Neighbours became suspicious when a high-tonnage air conditioning machine was installed in the vacant first floor. The police was told by the neighbors that the machine was used to run all the time.
