In yet another shocking case of sexual assault against a minor, a 70-year-old elderly man was booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old Dalit girl. The incident is reportedly said to be from Chandigarh's Rewari after which on Monday cops booked the old man. The police said the incident occurred on Saturday when the victim had gone to the accused’s shop when he lured her inside and sexually assaulted her. The girl, however, screamed for help and managed to flee.
“My daughter came home crying and narrated the ordeal to her mother. We confronted him, but the man evaded us. Then, we approached the sarpanch and asked him to hold a panchayat and punish the man,” the victim’s father said.
The victim's father added that the panchayat, on Sunday, asked him to settle the case in exchange of ₹5 lakh, but he did not agree and insisted that the man is punished. Kosli DSP Anil Kumar said no arrest had been made yet.
“We are recording the statement of the victim and her medical examination has been conducted. The child welfare committee is counselling her,” Kumar said, denying any knowledge of money being offered.
The old man has been booked under section 6 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 3 of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
