Shame! No ambulance, pregnant woman carried for 7 kms to hospital on a stretcher made from blanket in Kerala

In a pathetic situation, a 27-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for her delivery on a stretcher made from bedsheet for almost 7kmas there were non-availability of the ambulance. The woman who hails from Kerala's Palakkad's Attapadi village had to be carried on a stretcher made of a bedsheet and tied to logs, hospital sources said.

The incident broke outrages on the lack of medical support for the people in rural areas and tribal regions after the footage of woman's journey was aired by television channels, went viral on social media.


In the footage, it can be seen six family members of the woman are accompanying her as she is carried on shoulders of the men with the help of wooden logs. The woman was taken to the government tribal hospital at Kottathara on Tuesday where she delivered a baby girl. Both mother and daughter are fine, the sources said.

Earlier, a similar incident was witnessed at the government hospital of Tamil Nadu where a 70-year-old man was made to crawl to the exit of the hospital due to non availability of the stretcher. The old man had to come to the hospital for his legs treatment and was made to crawl.
