On the World Cancer day a shameful incident came to light, a 9-year-old cancer patient was brutally raped by a 25-year-old woman from Kerala’s Kalady (Ernakulam). The minor is suffering from blood cancer and has been sexually assaulted multiple times.
Reportedly the parents of the child approached the police on January 12 after the boy revealed his ordeal during a counselling session in the school. The accused woman is a friend of victim’s mother.
According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the boy told police that he was being abused for more than four months. The accused identified as Raji Roy has been arrested by the Kerala Police after a preliminary investigation.
A medical examination also confirmed the sexual assault of the victim. The accused has been reportedly sent to a women’s jail. The accused will be booked under provisions of the protection of children from sexual offences act (POCSO).
Meanwhile, the accused husband claimed that his wife was innocent and she he had some unsettled financial deals with the boy’s mother. “My wife worked as a maid in several houses to raise money for the treatment of the boy. When she asked to return some of the money she was implicated in the case,” reported Hindustan Times quoting Roy’s husband as saying.
According to the report, the mother had told the police that she met the accused during one of her trips to the hospital. However, the police claim to act only after they found two medical reports confirming assault on the boy. An investigation is underway in the case. The boy is undergoing treatment at hospital and police is waiting for his statement.
