Nagaur: In a new modus operandi, cyber scammers are targeting people in the name of traffic e-challan, sending links via messages and duping them of their hard-earned money. The police administration has issued an alert to the citizens, warning them not to fall prey to such fraudulent activities.

According to cyber experts, the scammers send a message to the victim's phone, which appears to be from the transport department's website. The message contains a payment link, and as soon as the victim clicks on it, the scammer gains access to their debit/credit card information and other sensitive details.

Cyber experts Madharam Kala and Narsi Kilak have warned people to be cautious of such messages. "The scammer shares a link that looks similar to the original transport department website, but the difference lies in the URL. The government website's URL ends with 'gov.in', whereas the scammer's link may vary," Kala explained.

Nagaur Traffic Police Superintendent Ali Mohammed has also cautioned citizens not to respond to any such messages. "If you have received a challan, you will not receive an alert on your phone. Also, do not make any payments without verifying the authenticity of the message," he said.

To avoid falling prey to such scams, cyber experts suggest that people should check the URL of the website and look for the 'gov.in' extension. Additionally, they should cross-check the details of their vehicle, such as the engine number and chassis number, which are usually mentioned in the genuine message.

If you are a victim of such fraud, report it immediately to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal's helpline number 1930 and register a complaint with the cybercrime reporting portal. You should also inform your bank and the nearest police station about the incident.

Remember, caution is the key to avoiding such scams. Stay vigilant and do not fall prey to the deceitful tactics of cyber scammers.
