New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Satyendar Jain, a former Delhi minister and prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in a money laundering case. The court has considered Jain's medical condition and imposed several conditions along with the bail.
Refrain from influencing any witness
A bench comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and PS Narasimha has approved Jain's interim bail for a period of six weeks, extending till July 11. The court has emphasized that Jain must refrain from influencing any witnesses related to the case during this period. To ensure transparency, the court has requested the submission of all relevant medical treatment documents.
Medical Treatment Provision
The Supreme Court has granted Jain the liberty to select a hospital of his choice for his medical treatment. This decision highlights the court's consideration of Jain's health condition as the basis for granting interim bail. The court has emphasized that the bail is contingent on medical grounds.
Examination by Panel of Doctors
During the proceedings, Senior Advocate AM Singhvi, representing Jain, cited health reasons as the primary basis for seeking bail. On the other hand, ASG SV Raju, appearing for the Enforcement Directorate (ED), proposed that Jain should be examined by a panel of doctors from either AIIMS or Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Raju also brought to the court's attention that Jain previously served as the Health Minister, thereby having oversight over government hospitals.
Conditions and Further Hearing
In addition to the grant of interim bail, the Supreme Court has imposed certain conditions on Jain. These conditions include refraining from engaging with the media and obtaining permission before leaving Delhi. The court has specified that the interim bail will remain in effect until July 11, and the matter has been scheduled for further hearing on July 10.
The Supreme Court's decision to grant interim bail to Satyendar Jain on medical grounds provides temporary relief in the ongoing money laundering case. With the condition to adhere to various restrictions and the provision to choose a hospital for medical treatment, Jain's bail ensures his access to necessary healthcare while legal proceedings continue.
