Mohan Bhagwat on lynching

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat believes that lynching should be dealt with sternly and if required new laws should be made to deal with these cases. Bhagwat termed the lynching as being a 'western construct', used by some 'vested interests' to tarnish India's image abroad.

Abrogation of Article 370
Bhagwat has welcomed Narendra Modi government's decision to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. "This government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the will and courage to take hard decisions for the welfare of the people and country," Bhagwat said while addressing the Vijayadashmi function of the RSS at Reshimbagh ground in Nagpur on Tuesday.

India stands for unity in diversity
"India is known for its ability to live peacefully with everyone, we respect each other's languages, religions and faith," Bhagwat said.
He stated that in India there is no room for those who indulge in 'lynching' and strict action should be taken against them.

However, some people have started raising their objections on Bhagwat's stand on lynching.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi hit out at Bhagwat for his statement that mob lynching was a western construct and it should not be used to defame India. Reacting sharply to Bhagwat's statement, Owaisi said Muslims, Dalits and even Hindus have been victims of incidents of mob lynching in the country.

It is not the first time that Bhagwat has highlighted the need to live in harmony with all other fellow citizens. But, now this appeal has become frequent and the stern stand against lynching suggests that RSS is determined to show its human face that is not against any religion and gives utmost importance to rule of law and civil liberties.
