Reservation protest: Rajasthan Police open fires on agitators protesting for Gujjar quota, Congress govt on stand-by
As the stir continues by the Gujjar community to demand the rights for quota and reservation, the Rajasthan police has today open fired upon the agitators which has taken the protests into a violent phase.
On day 3 of the protests, the Gujjars had bocked the highway connecting Dholpur to Gwalior and police were unsuccessful in stopping them. Earlier, the agitators had brought a stand-still in the state by taking over the railway networks across the region.
News agency ANI had tweeted informing, “A clash broke out between police and protesters at Dholpur Highway today where the latter had blocked the road and set vehicles ablaze. The protesters were supporting the ongoing reservation movement by Gujjar community.”

The agitation has now taken a violent turn and today, in its last resort, the police had to open fire upon the agitators and protesters involved. Although, one got hurt or killed but it has raised certain objections as the government has changed in the state and it’s the Congress led by Rahul Gandhi which is looking after the affairs.
Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla has stated o the movement being led by the Gujjars to demand their right under reservation category, “We will stay here until a decision is taken, until we get 5% reservation.”
Meanwhile, the Government of India has give Reservation status of 10% to the General category under the Economical Weaker Section, who have an annual income of Rs 8 lacs and less. It would be interesting to see how Congress government tackles the movement as the promise for a 5% Reservation o the Gujjar was promised by the BJP and Vasundhara Raje lost the polls.
