The Panchkula court pronounced life-term jail to Gurmeet Ram Rahim in journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati murder case. The CBI demanded death penalty for Ram Rahim. The court also pronounced life term to 3 other convicts Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal in journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati murder case, who was killed in 2002. Ram Rahim in currently serving his sentenced and has been loged in Sunaria jail, Rohtak.
Three other convicts Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal, have also been awarded life imprisonment. The Court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each, reports news agency ANI.

The CBI special court in Panchkula in Harayana pronounced the quantum of sentence. On January 11, the Panchkula court held all 4 guilty of killing and conspiring in the murder of journalist Ram Chander, who was investigating the case of Ram Rahim at journalistic level.
CBI also informed the Court that requisite sanctions to prosecute certain public servants, accused in the case, have been obtained.
Journalist Ram Chander’s son has been fighting the case since then and had received many threats by the followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, as per media reports.
The security was beefed up by the Haryana Police in order to maintain the discipline and law and order in and around the city ahead of the quantum of sentence against Gurmeet Ram Rahim, as last time stampede and ruckus had been created.
