Actor-politician Rajinikanth on Tuesday night paid a visit to the Kauvery Hospital to inquire about the health of ailing Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M. Karunanidhi.
"I came to inquire about the country's most senior leader. He was sleeping. I inquired about his health from his family members. I pray to the almighty for his speedy recovery," Rajinikanth told media after meeting Karunanidhi's family members.
Rajinikanth also met DMK leader MK Alagiri at the hospital.
The Kauvery Hospital earlier on Tuesday said that Karunanidhi's vital signs have gradually normalised, but he will continue to remain under observation.
In a statement, Executive Director of Kauvery Hospital, Dr Aravindaran Selvaraj said, "There has been a resolution of the condition which led to his hospital admission, an extended period of hospitalization will be necessary due to age-related overall decline in Karunanidhi's general health, altered liver functions and haematological parameters. He continues to maintain his vital signs with active medical support."
On July 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi enquired about the ill health of Karunanidhi and prayed for his quick recovery. The Prime Minister also spoke to Karunanidhi's son MK Stalin and daughter Kanimozhi regarding the same.
Karunanidhi was admitted to the hospital following a drop in his blood pressure last week. The DMK chief, who is on intravenous antibiotics, was earlier undergoing treatment at his Gopalapuram residence in Chennai.
