Farmers in Jaipur's Neendar village, who have been protesting government's acquisition of their lands by burying themselves partially in pits, continued with their protest on the occasion of Diwali.
The farmers continued their unique form of protest called 'Samadhi Satyagraha' on Diwali and decorated the protest site with illuminated diyas, on Diwali.
The large gathering comprising, men and women alike, raised slogans against the government and Jaipur Development Authority (JDA).
"Hum humaara hak maangte nahi kisi se bheekh maangte (We demand our rights, not begging anyone)," the crowd unanimously shouted aloud.
The farmers have been protesting for more than two weeks now.
The JDA in 2011 had allegedly acquired 1300 acres of land to build housing societies, and since then, the farmers have been protesting against it in various ways.
On October 4, the protesting farmers alleged that the state government is showing negligent behaviour and no help is being provided to them, in compensation for the acquisition of their lands.
