The Central Government on December 20 approved the upgradation and rehabilitation work of the National Highway-25 extension to 2-lane with a paved shoulder of the Ghagaria-Munabao section of District Barmer in Rajasthan. The upgradation and rehabilitation work of NH-25 has been approved under the EPC mode at a cost of Rs 235.15 crore.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari took to Twitter and informed about the approval, adding that the project passes through backward districts of the desert state. The Minister further said the project route will promote regional economic growth and congestion-free traffic movement.

The project will improve connectivity to NH-68 (Jaisalmer-Barmer-Sanchor), NH-25 (Jodhpur-Pachpadra-Barmer), and NH-925 (Bakasar-Gagadiya), Gadkari added.

Gadkari further pointed out that NH-25 (Extension) is a link to the Bharatmala road network which is parallel to International Border connecting Munabao-Dhanana-Tanot (NH-70).

“It links Munabao to Barmer district headquarters, which is home to a number of military bases,” he tweeted.

The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister further said that the national highway is crucial from a strategic point of view to provide logistics to Munabao along the (International Border) which is currently a single lane.
