Rajasthan chaiwalla under IT scanner after giving Rs 1.5 crore dowry for 6 daughters

A tea seller allegedly gave Rs 1.51 crore as dowry for his six daughters at their wedding on 14 April following which he has landed himself under income tax department's scanner.

According to a report in Times of India, Leela Ram Gujjar could be seen flaunting his money and counting the notes in a video that went viral earlier this week.

Gujjar owns a tea stall at Haduata near Kothputli. After counting the notes in front of people present at the event, Gujjar gave the money to the families of the grooms, the report added.

The IT department summoned him to get a data of his earnings but he didn't show up.

"We will wait till Thursday. He will be questioned on his income, and it will be checked if he filed his returns or not. If the dowry he paid stemmed from unaccounted for income, a tax deduction process would be initiated. He has also been asked to produce documents pertaining to his income," TOI quoted a senior I-T officer as saying.

Apart from the IT department, police is also on a lookout for Gujjar as he married off four of his minor daughters.
