A local Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader and three others were wounded in an alleged targeted hand grenade attack at Karachi's Layari on Wednesday.
As reported by the Geo News, PML (N) leader Aqeel Rehmani was shot at six times continuously by a group of unidentified suspects near Ghareeb Shah Mazar.
The law enforcement agencies revealed that Rehmani's bodyguard immediately fired retaliatory gunshots and managed to injure two of the suspects.
Following that the assailants hurled upon a hand grenade injuring Rehmani and others who were standing beside him.
Rehmani was subsequently transferred to a civil hospital. Further, another person, named Imran, also sustained injuries in the incident.
The incident took place in the middle of a busy road. Due to which one of the suspects, identified as Usman, was immediately grabbed by the crowd and was later handed over to the police.
The forces captured suspect Asad Baloch in a wounded state. He was recently released from the prison. He was accused of allegedly attacking Rehmani earlier as well.
Later, the leaders of PML-N and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) condemned the attack on Rehmani.
PML(N) spokesperson Asad Usmani said that the miscreants were increasing their hold in the city while accusing the Sindh government of failing at maintaining peace.
On the other hand, MMA leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman called the attack a conspiracy to disrupt peace at Lyari and criticised the ruling government over the attacks.
The latest attack on Rehmani is the eighth targeted assault on him in the past few months.
