After a ban on Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) in all urban areas of the state, Odisha government has decided to impose completed ban on plastic in the rural areas f the state from October 2, 202.
The government has also announced to launch an extensive campaign for the collection of SUPs for massive recycling.
Under the new action plan, Odisha government has decided to install plastic waste processing centers in each district of the state, while, the Public Works Department has also been directed to use disposed plastic wastes in road construction works.
Apart from this, Panchayati Raj department has been asked to gradually impose restriction on SUPs in rural area.
The state government has also decided to engage wSelf Help Groups (SHGs) for manufacturing paper and cloth-based carry bags.
Worth mentioning here that, the Odisha government had that use of plastic would be banned in the entire state within two years. The ban on use of plastic and polythene bags was first implimented in six cities--Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Puri. Later, the prohibition was extended to all urban areas.
