Odisha's ruling-Biju Janta Dal (BJD) MP Chandrasekhar Sahu landed in a controversy after he slapped a party worker on stage during a BJD meeting, held at Paralakhemundi of Gajapati district yesterday.
The former union minister and sitting Berhampur MP slapped the party worker, which was caught on camera and later, the video went viral on social media platforms triggering strong criticism for him.
As per reports, Sahu had gone to attend party's extended executive meeting in Paralakhemundi and was being felicitated on stage by the BJD workers when he lost his cool and gave a tight slap to former Gajapati district Youth Congress president Sangram Sahu who recently joined the BJD.
Later, the video of the former union minister, sahu went viral and started doing rounds on social media. Many political leaders and intellectuals condemned Sahu for his misbehaviour.
However, the Berhampur MP apologized for his act.
Sahu, the former union minister in UPA government had left Congress and joined the ruling BJD in May 2018. The BJD had dropped cine-star turned politician, Siddhant Mohapatra and fielded Sahu as its candidate from Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency.
Sahu successfully contested from the Lok Sabha seat in 2019 general elections.
