Now mafia cannot threaten entrepreneurs in UP: CM Adityanath claims best law and order in state
After gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by three assailants outside a government medical hospital in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 18 reacted on the law and order situation in the state and said, “Now the mafia cannot threaten anyone in the state.”
While addressing the gathering during an event, CM Adityanath stated that before 2017, law and order in Uttar Pradesh was poor and the state was infamous for riots. “Between 2012 to 2017, Uttar Pradesh witnessed more than 700 riots, and between 2007 to 2012, over 364 riots happened in the state. But since 2017 to 2023, no riots and curfew happened in the state. This is the best time to invest and set up enterprises,” he said.

“Uttar Pradesh gives you a guarantee of the best law and order, and has also cleaned the stigma of poor connectivity of the state by connecting the interstate connectivity of Uttar Pradesh with four-lane roads,” he added.
"Before 2017, law and order in Uttar Pradesh was bad and the state was infamous for riots. Earlier there was a crisis for the identity of the state, today the state is becoming a crisis for them (criminals and mafias)," ANI quoted CM Adityanath as saying.
Yogi Adityanath’s statement came days after Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on April 15. The incident took place when police were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.
Atiq and Ashraf were killed days after the encounter of the mafia’s son Asad and shooter Ghulam who were gunned down in a police encounter in Jhansi.
Both criminals were brought to Prayagraj by police from Gujarat and Bareilly prisons for interrogation in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case.
